When I was younger, I couldn’t understand why people fasted. The idea of going without food or water for any period of time seemed impossible. Since the pandemic, my curiosity led me to explore fasting—was I missing something?
Fasting, the practice of abstaining from food (and sometimes water) for a set time, is nothing new. It has been a pillar of religious, cultural, and medical traditions for centuries, each with its own guidelines. From intermittent fasting (16:8, 5:2, alternate-day fasting) to juice fasts and water-only fasts, the common thread is giving our gut a much-needed break.
In today’s fast-paced world, we constantly tax our digestive system, often eating late into the night. But did you know our bodies undergo cellular repair between 10 PM and 2 AM? For this repair to happen, digestion must slow down. Late-night snacking disrupts this process, keeping our digestive system overworked and preventing necessary restoration.
Like an engine that runs non-stop, an overburdened digestive system eventually becomes inefficient. Without proper rest, cellular debris accumulates, leading to inflammation, disease, and premature aging. Our ancestors had it right—they ate early, slept early, and allowed their bodies to heal.
This realization led me to create my own 30-day fast—not tied to any religion or culture, but designed for anyone seeking greater awareness, mindfulness, and a deeper connection to self.
For the past five years, I’ve embraced this practice. As I begin my 6th year, I am joined by a growing community preparing for 30 days of fasting in March. Here’s what this journey has given me:
✅ Heightened Awareness – A deep appreciation of “you are what you eat.”
✅ Gratitude – Greater appreciation for food when breaking my fast.
✅ Enhanced Senses – Taste, smell, and touch become more acute.
✅ Craving Reset – Sugar, flour, desserts, and alcohol cravings disappear.
✅ Mindful Eating – A true understanding of satiety and what my body actually needs.
✅ Efficient Digestion – Improved gut health and daily cleansing.
✅ Productivity Boost – Increased focus, creativity, and efficiency.
✅ Mind-Body-Soul Alignment – A deeper sense of balance and clarity.
✅ Mental Resilience – Proof that when you set your mind to something, you can do it.
✅ Youthful Energy – Feeling lighter, more vibrant, and actively investing in longevity.
I’m excited to embark on this journey again, reminding myself of the profound benefits of fasting. If you’re interested in discovering a fasting approach that suits your body and goals, connect with me.
